A Timegrapher
This application is designed to measure the BPH (Beats per Hour) of mechanical watches and also indicates the time error per day.
The app utilizes the microphone of your device to measure the BPH. It is recommended to connect a microphone to your phone and place it on the back of your watch for accurate results.
- The basic version of the app displays a wave graph and pulse interval histogram.
- Access to frequency display requires a 'Premium' upgrade.
We advise testing the app with your watch before considering the 'Premium' upgrade, as the app will function as the Premium version for 30 minutes upon installation.
Please note that this app is not suitable for digital clocks or noisy environments. Ensure that the microphone is directed towards the clock for precise measurements.
Review by Mr. Kojima: http://www.thewatchsite.com/index.php/topic,42142.0.html
Preset example settings:
- Rolex or mechanical watch: Target frequency - 4 or 5Hz, Sample duration - 2 seconds, Sensitivity - Manual 50
- Most pendulum clocks: Target frequency - 1 or 2Hz, Sample duration - 5 or 10 seconds, Sensitivity - Medium
FAQ:
- Can you explain how the sensitivity settings affect the results? It determines the sound amplitude threshold for detecting clock sound. Adjust sensitivity based on your clock's sound level to minimize environmental noise and measurement errors.
- Why do the detected frequencies appear in light grey, black, and red? The color coding indicates the stability of measurements where red indicates minimal drift during measurement, while grey suggests potential errors.
- Why does the average frequency display as NaN at times? The 'detected frequency' should consistently appear in red to avoid NaN values.
- How is pulse drift % calculated? It is calculated using abs(max detected frequency - min detected frequency) divided by detected frequency during one detection cycle.
- What do the two graphs represent and what data are used for calculations? The upper graph bars should be similar in size, while the lower graph displays the amplitude of sound waves recorded by the microphone.
- Are there plans for developing new versions of the app? You can share sound samples by sending a WAV or MP3 file to [email protected] for potential future updates.
